The Ferry, The Dog, and The Fading Folk

Jules is on a ferry. There she meets an old man and his dog. The three set out to climb a hill together and everything is fine until a storm takes them down a whole other journey.

What starts as a day trip to the Isle of Arran spirals into a chaotic odyssey through grief, lust and lore - navigating a giant with a taste for salted grief / faeries who dance you through the night / and shadows of old stories that lure you in with their song.

This is not a story about healing; it’s about running away into chaos, seeking the ones we’ve lost, losing yourself in the process.

And finding out that it’s not about that / that you’re not that lost anyway / that you were just being a bit dramatic / that it’s okay to be the person who’s left / that even though it looks good and feels good, it still might want to eat you.

And choosing not to die-

Exploring the world of grief after palliative care through a mythical tale of giants, faeries and an old washerwoman, this one person show invites the audience to go on an adverture on the Isle of Arran with Jules, Seamus and Corrie the dog.

Meet the Team

Amber Frances Writer/Performer

Amber (She/Her) is a theatre maker and actor from Belgium. She holds a MFA in Classical and Contemporary Text (Acting) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a MA in Dramatic Arts from LUCA School of Arts in Belgium. She is also a writer, does voice-over work and works as script consultant. This summer she will tour European and UK Shakespeare festivals performing in an adaptation of King Lear.

Odhran Thomson Writer

Odhran Thomson (he/him) is an actor, writer, poet and habitual apple-cart upsetter.

Commissioned by Vanishing Point in 2022, he works to place emphasis on joy through his practice - creating the perfect balance of witty mischief, stupid antics and thought-provoking reflections on gender, identity and positivity. Drawing from his experience of transition in the UK, Odhran will bring you a delicate approach, politics and heartfelt honesty, all with a sense of the optimism of youth. 

Katie Jackson Director/Producer

Katie (They/Them) is a director, writer and producer from London. Starting out their career in theatre as a stage manager, Katie has worked on musicals, opera, ice shows, dance and theatre from West End to UK and international touring. 

Katie holds a foundation degree in Stage Management from RADA and a MFA degree in Classical & Contemporary Text (directing) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Cecilia Thoden von Velzen Sound Designer

Cecilia (She/Her) is a theatremaker, writer and composer from the Netherlands. She holds two degrees in directing, a BA from Toneelacademie Maastricht and an MA/MFA from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and works across the UK and Europe. Her productions are often focused on the unseen and the unbelonged and vary from music theatre and opera to puppetry performance and classical text. Her next project is an adaptation of King Lear that will tour the UK and Europe in Summer 2025.
